How to apply Spouse of Japanese visa?
There are 2 cases of Spouse of Japanese visas.
APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY
1 case is that the foreign spouse is not in Japan. In this case Japanese and foreign spouse met in abroad, in many cases. Maybe, Japanese have been in other country in any travel or job.
Anyway, they met in any country and married in any country’s law, off course Japanese law is good.
In this case, foreign spouse is not in Japan without Travel visa, Japanese have to apply Spouse of Japanese visa for foreign spouse at Immigration in Japan.
This application is called “APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY”.
If the application was permitted, the Japanese can get “CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY” by post from Immigration and the Japanese send the certificate to foreign spouse.
Foreign spouse goes to Japan embassy and apply visa submitting this certificate, visa application form and other necessary documents.
APPLICATION FOR CHANGE OF STATUS OF RESIDENCE
Other case is that the foreign spouse is in Japan with any other visa like working visa or Student visa. In this case, foreign spouse will change his/her visa into Spouse of Japanese visa.
This application is called “APPLICATION FOR CHANGE OF STATUS OF RESIDENCE”.
If this application was permitted, the applicant can get new Residence Card as Spouse of Japanese.
